This was a question that I recently got asked during a presentation that I gave to a potential client. She said that she gets 2-5 calls a week from SEO companies claiming that they can help get them to the top of search engines and that they were missing out on all kinds of potential traffic.
The Increasing SEO Marketing Call Trend
The increase in search engine optimization calls is like what happens in any relatively new industry when people realize there is potential money to be made. A majority of the calls that companies receive are from call centers located in every corner of the world. These call centers are hired by individuals that have done some form of SEO or Internet marketing for a company they used to work for and now think they are professionals. The call centers make thousands of calls per day and when they get an interested business they transfer them to the SEO guy sitting in their basement.
Its always unfortunate when an industry gets over-saturated with marketing attempts and it makes it more difficult for businesses to sift through the junk to get to the true professionals. Here are a couple tips when looking for an SEO company:
- Ask for websites that they are currently working on as well as sample ranking reports to prove they can get results
- Ask if you can contact their existing clients for references
- Check for mirror sites for their current clients
- Check out their company website. It doesn’t need to be a medal winner, but make sure that they have a quality site that they didn’t just create one sleepless night
- Call a reputable SEO company and ask for their opinion

Google has introduced a new feature to compete with the Facebook ‘Like’ button. The new +1 button allows users to let friends and collegues know what they think is ‘kinda cool’ or ‘worth checking out.’ Google explains the feature that allows like-minded people to get recommendations on everything from mechanics to bed and breakfasts. How to Use Google’s Like or +1 Button
I will admit, it took a little searching in order to find out how to use this new +1 button. It was easy to gather information on what the button was, but not so easy on how to use the new feature. Since its still in the experimental phase, you have to opt into the project to start using it. First you must have a Google Profile page, if you have one log in, or create one here.
Next simply opt in to the Google Like Button experiment. Now when you search in google, you will see the +1 button next to all results!
